This tool set (I’m calling it a tool set) it comes with so much more then just rachets. It’s setup for ease of work and finding the right size. Good assortment of high quality tools, case could be better
This is a large set of high-quality hand tools with a wide range of sockets with three different-sized ratchets, a magnetic tool handle with numerous bits, numerous hex wrenches, and a few common combination wrenches. All of these come in a portable carrying case with a top level plus three pull-out drawers. Each of these storage compartments conveniently has indents which match the tool pieces so everything has its place. The tools all seem well made and very sturdy. For example, the ratchets have lock / release buttons for the sockets so they are held more securely. Also, the tools have permanent stamped markings so you always will know what size they are. Unfortunately, the carrying case is not quite as well made as the tools it contains, as I will discuss more below.I got this tool set primarily to round out and fill in my set of tools, especially when it comes to metric and deep-well sockets and larger ratchets. I also had lost some tools such as certain hex wrenches, and I didn’t have a magnetic handle with tips, so this set provided a lot of nice tools. These first came in handy when I was mounting a ceiling hook plate which required the insertion of four long screws with metric hex heads. The longest ratchet handle made these much easier to screw in, especially since I drilled the pilot holes somewhat small so the screws would “bite in” better. I’ve since used a number of these tools and they all work well and seem like they will hold up well over years of use.As I said above, while the tools are well made, the carrying case could be better. One good thing about it is that the case stays closed when latched, and the tools stay inside and can’t fall out even if it is tipped over. But one problem is that the three drawers are held in by snap closure panels on each side. These are extremely hard to pull open, and there is really nowhere to even put your fingers under the edge for more leverage. I actually had to use a screwdriver blade to pry them open, but unfortunately, this slightly dented the “blow-molded” plastic drawer under the blade. It would be better if these had something like a release in the top compartment instead of this snap-type closure. Another problem is that most of the tool pieces such as the sockets do not snap into their designated spots; rather they just sit loosely in the wells. This means that they can move around during transportation. If you keep the tool set in your vehicle, for example, the individual pieces can easily roll around inside when you hit bumps in the road or make sharper turns. When I received the set it even had temporary plastic covers screwed in over the tool drawers to hold the pieces in place, yet they still moved around and rearranged during their trip to me. Another possible problem is that the case does not have any way to lock it closed. This is not a necessity, but, it can be handy at least to keep others from “borrowing” your tools without permission.But despite these minor problems with the case, this is still a really nice set of tools that I expect to use for many years.

Decent starter set, good quality overall, with some pros and cons.
This is a mechanic set with an impressive number of pieces but you will find many of them you will never use and some others that are needed are missing, I just wish the manufacturers would ask a real mechanic when assembling these kits. First there are a huge number of SAE/imperial sockets that no car brand will ever use, they’re placed there just to fill spaces. Back then when manufacturers started to apply the world car concept (one model for all the world), most cars started to use Metric sizes but this kit has very little of that. The wrenches are small combined only 10,12,13 and 14 are metric size and they’re not very precise on the grabbing especially if you’re using the open wrench part, cars also use 8mm,15mm and 17mm very often, the kit has In my opinion too many hex key wrenches and screwdriver bits, those are cheap items that can be purchased separately according to the needs, the kit is mostly sockets but for example lacks a 10mm deep socket, most deep sockets are SAE, there are no E-sockets that most modern cars use, and the sockets has too much play when inserted which is an issue if you’re working in tight spaces or you can’t see the bolt directly (yes, many times we have to use a mirror to work), it also lack of long extensions, just 3 inches extensions are included, somewhat I feel this kit as unbalanced for mechanic work, there are definitely kits out there with lower number of pieces but better balanced, now for a weekend sporadic use this kit is ok as the quality of the steel is good and the ratchets appear to work fine but keep in mind you will need extra tools to work, this set won’t be enough.

Amazon Basics 287-Piece Mechanic Tool Set with Sockets, Ratchets & Wrenches – 3-Drawer CaseA generally good set of tools.The case is very well constructed; surprisingly sturdy. The latches for the top aren’t well designed…they tend to want to tuck in under the lid when it is lowered…this means that you have to “play” with them, to try to keep all four out of the way of the lid closing. The front drawer latches, on either side of the front, are of poor design that eventually will wear out and not keep the drawers secure. They do work well, for now.the drawers are structurally well designed and keep everything organized. The layout could have been better, though.The combination wrenches and L-hex wrenches are stored in the top section. I think that this would have been a better spot for the various 1/4″ hex drive bits and driver.For some reason they decided to put the 3/8 and 1/2 extensions and adapters in with the 1/4 drive socket set.A few minor mis-steps in the layout; nothing horrible. Four dedicated screw drivers would have been a nice inclusion…#1 & #2 Phillips and two different straight blades…I know they are available in the hex drive bits section, but….The overall quality of the actual tools is not bad at all. Certainly not professional shop quality, but great for your average home. I do like the tooling lock on the ratchets… they lock on real good.The overall selection is decent. A few more combination wrenches or an adjustable would have been great.OVERALL: Although I would never show up at work with these tools, they are perfectly fine for at home…easy to store set. Good selection.
