Works Extremely Well When Charged, but Long-Term Battery Drain Limits Emergency Readiness
Overall, I have been very impressed with the NOCO Boost GB40 as an actual jump starter. When charged and ready to use, it has worked reliably for me multiple times over the years and has successfully jumped my vehicle without much trouble. The compact size and portability also make it much more convenient than dealing with traditional jumper cables. The biggest issue I have experienced is long-term battery retention during storage. I would fully charge the unit to 100% and keep it in my trunk specifically for rare emergency situations, but because those situations are thankfully uncommon, I would often discover that the internal battery had completely drained by the time I actually needed it months later. In practice, that means this works best for people who either:regularly maintain and recharge the unit, frequently use it,or own vehicles that commonly need jump starts. If you are expecting to charge it once and forget about it for extremely long periods, you may want to check the battery status more regularly than expected.I also occasionally tried to use it to help other stranded drivers, but the same issue sometimes came up where the unit had already self-discharged from sitting unused too long in the trunk. To be fair, I do not know how much of this is normal lithium battery behavior versus the device itself, especially considering temperature changes inside vehicles over long periods. But it is still something buyers should realistically know before relying on it as a long-term untouched emergency backup.Overall, I still think it is an excellent portable jump starter and a very useful tool when properly maintained and kept charged. I just recommend periodically checking and topping it off instead of assuming it will stay at full charge indefinitely in storage.

Small but Powerful
This booster is one of those products you hope you never need, but you’ll be so glad you have when you do. It’s compact enough to keep in the trunk or back seat without taking up much space, yet powerful enough to quickly jump start a dead battery with no hassle.I love how easy it is to use, even for someone who isn’t very car-savvy. The instructions are simple, the clamps feel sturdy, and the safety features give extra confidence when connecting it since I know I won’t damage my car or harm myself. It saved me from having to wait for roadside assistance which is AMAZING!Overall, this little jump starter is absolutely worth it. Reliable, convenient, and a real lifesaver when you need it most.

Small cars
I bought this portable starter hoping to use it in my work with cranes, but in my experience it has not been the best option for large vehicles or heavily discharged batteries. With its 1000 amps, I think it works best for cars, light trucks or occasional emergencies. What I liked the least is that the battery discharges relatively quickly, especially after a few uses. This forced me to be aware of recharging it frequently to make sure it was ready when I needed it.In its favor, it is compact, easy to transport and the integrated flashlight is practical in night situations. For private drivers or lighter vehicles it can be a good backup tool, but for heavy work with cranes and frequent starts I would recommend looking for a model with greater capacity and amperage.

Easy, Fast and Reliable
This review is for:NOCO Boost Plus, Model GB40============================Short Version:I love this device and will likely never go without one again. It’s a reliable and easy to use jump-starter, power bank and 7-position flashlight all-in-one, so what’s not to like? I would recommend this NOCO device to anyone who owns a car. Consider it one-payment dead battery insurance with no wait, delays, or co-pay.==========================• MY EXPERIENCE:My car developed a short in the door lock mechanism that drained the battery in less than 24 hours. Between the inept Ford dealership and the excellent local private automotive shop, It took 5 weeks and several visits to trace and repair the short. In the meantime I needed a reliable way to jump-start my car on a nearly daily basis. After searching Amazon, I purchased this jump starter based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews. And it has really served me well. It was used multiple times between shop visits and has been used multiple times since then. It has been reliable when needed, jump-starting cars with ease. The Li-Ion battery holds a charge for a very long time. After sitting on the shelf for over 6 months it still appeared to hold nearly a full charge. And then only took about an hour to top it up.I’ve carried jumper cables in my trunk my whole life, but when a jump is needed you can never be certain someone will come along who’s willing and has the time to assist you. This powerful jump-starter eliminates that uncertainty. It’s also very easy to use and makes a great present for friends and family – even those who aren’t very mechanically inclined.• USEFUL LIFE & RECHARGE FREQUENCY- From NOCO, when answering a question here on Amazon:’The Boost should last several years with regular use and proper storage. To help extend the life of the internal battery, use and recharge at least every couple of months.’- Not everyone will have a need to use this device as a power bank, so the battery won’t get properly charged and discharged as described. In that case my suggestion is to use the NOCO every month or two to charge your cell phone.- From NOCO, in the Important Safety Warnings section of the instruction manual:’To ensure maximum battery life, avoid charging your product for more than a week at a time, as overcharging may shorten battery life. Over time, an unused product will discharge and must be recharged before use. Disconnect the product from power sources when not in use.’• FEATURES:- Powered by a (non-replaceable) 12v 1000A Li-Ion battery.- Battery Connection Safety — ‘Safely connect to any 12-volt vehicle with our mistake-proof design featuring spark-proof technology and reverse polarity protection’- Has a Manual Override, which allows the unit to jump start a battery that is discharged below 2v.- Also serves as a USB connected Power Bank- Includes a 7-position torch light• CONNECTIONS:- 12v Out – The included battery clamps are to be connected here. This is a unique connector so you cannot connect the jumper cables stored in your trunk directly to this device.- USB In – The included cable, or any USB to micro USB charging cable can be plugged in here in order to charge the NOCO jump-starter battery. The power rating of the charger device will dictate how fast the NOCO will come to a full charge.- USB Out – Let’s you use the NOCO as a Power Bank (5V, 2.1A), using a standard USB cable.• RECHARGING -Time needed to charge the NOCO – The following comes from the User Manual.Assuming a nearly or fully discharged NOCO GB40:Charger (source) Rating = Full Recharge Time.[.5A = 12h], [1A = 6h], [2A = 3h]• EASY TO USE:1. Plug the clamps into the NOCO.2. Connect the clamps to the car battery.3. Press the NOCO power button to turn it on.4. Start the car.5. Press the NOCO power button to turn it off.6. Disconnect the device from the car battery.

Great for emergencies.
Life Saver! Bought this back in Feb 2026 just in case and it’s been sitting in the trunk the whole time. Woke up this morning after a couple of weeks of not using the car and it didn’t start. Worked flawlessly. Didn’t have to wait for a jump from the tow truck.Well worth the investment.

Excellent! But can discharge itself!
The media could not be loaded.
Needs of switch or lock function so no accidental flashlight draining battery. For jumping vehicles, Jeep, Car, midsize Truck, had worked well for me and for helping others so seems there’s plenty of power and cranking amps. Holds a charge reasonably well; no idea how fast it charges because I put it on at night, ready in the morning. I do this if it gets below 50%, so don’t know if it will jump a vehicle with only 25% left. Had a Rugged Geek model before, but upgraded to this because of inconsistent jumping ability, sometimes it just wouldn’t work; worth the price for something that works!Fix the accidental light! Numerous times I found something had managed to press the light button through the storage bag, last time I saw it happen just lightly setting the bag down with the charged unit in the floor of my Jeep; setting, not throwing/tossing, didn’t put anything on top of it, lightly laid out down on the floor mat and watched the weight of the manual and cables cause the light to turn on! This, coupled with my wife recently pulling hers out to help someone on the side of the road, and it was mostly discharged despite it not being used since charging less than 2 months ago, had me wanting to give this review so hopefully more people will tell NOCO to fix this. Not cool. The included caring case is just a light cloth bag giving NO protection. Good thing the durability seems really good, especially the dust and water resistant covers for plugs and the cables being really short leaves little room for error/damage.Our backpacking air mattress pumps have a feature where you hold the power button long to lock it, then anything shorter than a 5 second press won’t unlock it or turn it on in a bag, and the Rugged Geek model has a physical off switch, nothing works unless you flip the switch to connect the circuit first; either of these options would make these jumper boxes better, but at least some kind of case or protective shield over the light button should happen!

NOCO Really Works!
My grandson has been telling me about this small battery jump starter he uses on his motorcycle when his battery is dead. He insists that it will work on full size Ford F250 truck that I have and I keep telling him it won’t start it if the battery is dead!!! Young kids!Well one day he was over to help me pick up some lumber at HD for a project I was working on at home. Went to start my truck and just click click! Told him to get my jumper cables while I pulled my car up to it to jump start it. He kept saying his motorcycle jump starter would start my truck but after arguing that it would not I made him a bet it would not! Needless to say I lost the bet because his Noco GB40 Did! Now I have 2 Noco’s GB40’s in both my vehicles!! Guess you can teach an old guy something new!!!
